Deciding when to open the perfume bar at a wedding shapes how guests use it, how long the line runs and how many bottles go home. I have watched guests at every point in the night, from the first cocktail to the last song. Here is what I tell every couple who asks.
Short version? Cocktail hour is my favorite. But the right answer depends on your guest count, your room and which of our three bars you choose. And yes, a micro wedding can absolutely have one.

Timing changes everything at a wedding perfume bar
A perfume bar is part entertainment and part favor. Open it at the wrong moment and guests feel torn between the bar and the dance floor. Open it at the right moment and it becomes the spot where two families finally meet.
Timing also decides which format makes sense. Our blending bars move about 50 guests per hour. The Signature Perfume Bar moves about 85 to 100. So the window you choose and the bar you choose should be planned together. Our guide to the three bar styles covers each one in detail.
We arrive one hour before your start time to set up. If the bar opens at cocktail hour, tell your venue so the space is ready for us early.
Pick your moment, then pick your date
Weddings book furthest ahead, and so do Saturdays in May, September and December. Most other Saturdays need six to eight weeks. If your date is sooner, reach out anyway. We have a large team of hosts and can often fit you in on short notice.
Our top pick for when to open the perfume bar at a wedding: cocktail hour
Cocktail hour is when guests are fresh, curious and looking for something to do. Nobody is seated yet. The bar becomes a natural gathering point, and conversations start on their own. Somebody always asks a stranger, “What did you pick?”
It also solves a quiet problem. While the two of you take photos, guests have a gentle activity that keeps the room warm. By the time you walk in, half the room is wearing something new.
The one trade-off is time. Cocktail hour usually runs about an hour. For a big guest list, the Signature Perfume Bar is the better fit. Guests choose from up to 12 signature scents you select, so it moves about 85 to 100 guests per hour. For a smaller list, a blending bar works beautifully.
Opening during the reception
For larger weddings, keeping the bar open through the reception works well. Guests drift over in natural waves, between courses and between songs. Friends come back together to compare scents, and the line never gets long because nobody arrives at once.
This is where the blending bars shine. The Mini Perfume Bar offers 60+ fragrance materials. The Full Perfume Bar offers 120+, including a family of signature scents for guests who would rather not blend from scratch. A longer window gives guests time to play.
Every guest leaves with an eau de parfum, a perfume-strength spray made at 50% fragrance material to perfumer's alcohol. Bottles come in 15 ml or 20 ml.
After dinner and late night
Some couples want a second wave of excitement later in the evening. Opening the bar after dinner gives guests something lovely to do between dancing and dessert. It wakes up the room without stopping the party.
Late night pairs nicely with our Luxury Candy Bar, too. Premium sweets in glass apothecary jars on our candy carts make a happy stop on the way to the bottles.
Micro weddings and small receptions
Small celebrations often create the sweetest perfume moments. With fewer guests, everyone can take their time, smell everything and ask questions. A Mini bar on one table is plenty.

How booking works
- Share the basics. Send your date, venue, rough guest count and occasion through the booking form.
- Get your proposal. We reply within two business days with an itemized proposal. There is no charge and no obligation.
- Sign and set your count. After you sign, your guest count can go up but not down, so book your lowest expected count.
- Meet your team. A week before the wedding, you receive your host details and arrival time.
- Enjoy the day. We arrive one hour before start time to set up, host every guest, then pack out and clean up.
