What a fragrance consultation is
Our perfume bars are lively, social, and fast-paced. A fragrance consultation is the opposite: quiet, personal, and entirely about you.
You sit down with a trained perfumer, talk about what you love, and smell raw materials one by one. Then, together, you build a fragrance that belongs to you alone. Because there's no line and no clock, there's time to adjust a note, try another, and get it exactly right.
In other words, it's bespoke perfume in the truest sense, made in Chicagoland from pure, raw, perfumery materials rather than chosen from a shelf. That's also why your formula is recorded and kept. At a busy event, there isn't time to write down every blend. At a consultation, it's part of the service, so your fragrance can be made again.

Some people love to create. Others would rather describe what they want and let a perfumer make it. Both are welcome.
Guided Blend
You create your own perfume, one note at a time, while the perfumer guides every choice.
- First, we talk about the scents you love and the ones you don't.
- Next, you choose a base, which is the foundation your perfume is built on.
- Then you smell and layer notes, with the perfumer suggesting what to try.
- Finally, we bottle your eau de parfum and record your formula.
Perfumer Commission
You commission the perfumer, which simply means asking a perfumer to create an original fragrance for you, the way you would commission a portrait.
- First, you share a brief in your own words, with no fragrance vocabulary needed.
- Next, the perfumer develops the fragrance from raw materials in our own lab.
- Then you smell it and share what you'd change, with revisions until it's right.
- Finally, your formula is recorded and kept, so it can be made again.

Meet the perfumer behind every fragrance consultation
Cheryl Gleason is the owner, perfumer, and creative director of Glitters & Grace. She studied under master perfumer and perfume educator Karen Gilbert and at the Institute for Art and Olfaction in Los Angeles. Since then, she has continued training through workshops, classes, and retreats around the world.
Instead of pre-mixed fragrance oils, Cheryl works with the true natural and synthetic perfumery materials used by real perfumers. Here is what those words mean:
- Absolutes
- Highly concentrated fragrance taken from delicate flowers, such as jasmine and rose, that can't handle heat.
- CO2 extracts
- Aromatics drawn from plants with pressurized carbon dioxide, so they smell remarkably close to the living plant.
- Essential oils
- Natural oils distilled or pressed from leaves, peels, woods, and resins.

How much does a fragrance consultation cost?
Fragrance consultations start at $650. Because every consultation and commission is different, we'll confirm your pricing before you book.
What does it mean to commission a perfumer?
To commission a perfumer simply means asking a perfumer to create an original fragrance for you, the same way you would commission a portrait. You describe what you're after in your own words, and we build it from raw materials in our own lab.
Do I need to know fragrance vocabulary?
Not at all. Just describe a place, a memory, a flower, or a feeling. Then the perfumer translates it into notes. In fact, some of the best briefs are a single story.
Where does the fragrance consultation take place?
At our Mokena studio, 19060 Everett Blvd, Suite 107, or in your home. The studio sits right off I-80 at LaGrange Road, with free parking.
Can I reorder my fragrance?
Yes. Your formula is recorded and kept on file, so when your bottle runs low, we can make it again.
What if the commissioned fragrance isn't quite right?
We develop it in our lab with revisions until it is right. So you'll smell it, share what you'd change, and we'll refine it together.
Can I give a fragrance consultation as a gift?

Is this the same as a bespoke perfume in Chicago?
Yes. A perfumer commission is bespoke perfume, meaning a fragrance created for one person. We make it in our own lab in the Chicago suburbs from raw perfumery materials.
What will I take home?
Your perfume is an eau de parfum spray, a concentrated perfume strength that lasts longer on skin than eau de toilette. It's made from absolutes, CO2 extracts, and essential oils.
