Celebrate Two Families With a Scent to Remember

A Nigerian traditional wedding brings two families together, and it often feels every bit as grand as the white wedding (a church or civil ceremony) that may follow. Our perfume bar and Lip Lab give guests a keepsake from that day.

Traditions differ between Yoruba, Igbo, Hausa, Edo, Efik, Urhobo and many other groups, and between individual families too. So we ask about your program first. Then we place our bars where they add joy without interrupting a single moment. See how we approach other traditions on our cultural celebrations page.

Two familiesMany couples hold the traditional ceremony to unite both families, then a white wedding on another day.
What guests wearAso ebi is coordinated fabric that family and friends wear, so each side of the room shines in its chosen colors.
How we helpOur bars give guests a keepsake between the ceremony segments and the dancing.

How a Nigerian Traditional Wedding Unfolds

In many Yoruba families, the journey starts with an introduction (a smaller meeting where the two families formally meet). The Yoruba engagement ceremony comes later. Often, two alagas (women who serve as masters of ceremony, one for each family) guide it with songs and humor. The groom and his friends may prostrate, lying face down before the bride's family as a sign of respect. Then the bride dances in, and she often places a cap on her groom's head to show her choice.

In many Igbo families, the high point of the traditional wedding is igba nkwu, when the bride carries a cup of palm wine (a traditional drink tapped from palm trees) to her groom. First, her father hands her the cup. Next, she searches the crowd while guests playfully try to distract her. When she finds her groom, she kneels and offers it to him, and he drinks. Then the crowd cheers, because everyone now knows her choice.

In many Hausa families, the marriage itself is sealed at the daurin aure (the Islamic marriage ceremony, often held at a mosque). Meanwhile, across many groups, guests spray money on the couple as they dance, tossing or placing bills to shower them with blessings. Bride price, prayers and attire also vary widely. Because of that, we never assume. We simply ask how your family does it.

Your program leads. Your alagas or MC set the order of the day. We work around every segment, and guests visit our bars in the open moments.

Details We Plan Around

Every trad runs on its own program. So before any Nigerian traditional wedding plan, these are the questions we ask first.

Working around the program

We place the bars away from the main floor, where the families meet and the bride makes her entrance. That way, no one has to choose between the bar and the ceremony.

Guest counts and pace

Guest lists for a trad can run into the hundreds. So we match the format to your crowd, and blending bars move about 50 guests an hour.

Alcohol and attars

Our standard perfume is an alcohol-based eau de parfum. If your families include guests who avoid alcohol, request attars when you book.

Halls and setup

We set up in banquet halls, hotel ballrooms, community centers and church social halls, if your venue allows outside vendors. We arrive one hour early.

Nigerian Traditional Wedding Ideas Guests Will Love

These ideas lean on the colors, families and generosity at the heart of the day.

Let your aso ebi colors guide the scent

Each family picks its aso ebi colors, so let them inspire the bar. For example, gold fabric pairs with a warm gourmand base, while emerald suits a fresh one.

Lip color to match the gele

Many women wear a gele (a tall, sculpted head wrap). So a Lip Lab shade that matches it becomes a fun stop for photos.

Favors with both family names

This day joins two families, so put both names on the label. Custom labels for Nigerian wedding favors are a paid add-on, ordered at booking.

Two studios

Mokena First, Then a Studio in Chicago

Our Mokena studio at 19060 Everett Blvd, Suite 107 opens in January 2027. Its party room fits up to 40 guests, with a kitchen so you can bring your own food. So it suits a bridal shower or an intimate introduction gathering.

Guests can also walk in, or book an appointment, to make perfume or lip color. In late 2028, a second studio is planned for Chicago. Of course, a full trad needs more room, so we bring the bars to your hall.

Your Nigerian Traditional Wedding Questions

Do you provide the MC, alagas or music?

No. Your families and vendors handle the program, music and food. We bring the perfume bar and beauty bars.

Will guests miss the ceremony to visit the bar?

We place the bars away from the main floor. Guests visit during the open moments, so the big segments stay full.

Can you handle 400 guests?

Yes, with planning. The Signature format moves 85 to 100 guests an hour, and we can talk about more than one bar.

Is the perfume alcohol-free?

No, the standard bar makes an alcohol-based eau de parfum. Attars are available on request.

Can we book you for the white wedding too?

Yes. Our wedding perfume bars page covers that day as well.

Can you match our aso ebi colors?

Clients usually dress our tables to match their theme. So bring runners or florals in your colors, and we will build the bar around them.

Can the bottles carry both family names?

Yes. Custom labels are a paid add-on, printed in advance and ordered at booking.

Do you travel to Indianapolis or Milwaukee?

Yes. We have teams in both cities, along with Chicagoland.
